Job Title:  IT Network & Systems Management Product Specialist / Business Analyst (PS/BA)

Status:  Full-time

Job Location:  Syracuse, NY


Job Summary:

Working as an integral member of ShoreGroup's Product Management team, the PS/BA interfaces with ShoreGroup's Product Managers, Software Development, Software QA/Test, Support and Engineering personnel, and Customers to identify, define and achieve software application functional requirements for the company's IT system and network management product.

Using a thorough understanding of the company's solutions and defined objectives as a basis, the PS/BA analyzes product enhancement and change requirements and recommends solutions for achieving them that takes into account existing product functionality and design, user experience, and development efficiencies. Leveraging independent and subject matter expertise, the PS/BA then proceeds to document the solution in detailed development specifications that will guide the realization efforts of the Software Development team.

The PS/BA serves as the primary point of contact and subject matter expert to represent new functions and applications through their complete cycle which includes specification, software development, quality assurance, documentation, introduction and sustaining phases.

This PS/BA position will specialize in the following application areas:

  • Analytical reporting
  • Help desk / Service desk
  • Change management
  • Workflow applications & automation
  • Systems & network management
Job Duties and/or Requirements:
  • Develop and maintain an in-depth knowledge of the company's IT system and network management product, as well as comparable applications and approaches in the marketplace
  • Analyze and propose solutions for software application enhancements and changes identified by Product Managers
  • Produce detailed development specifications based on business, market and customer requirements. This includes:
    • Understanding the functional requirements and business objectives
    • Researching and proposing potential approaches
    • Working with subject matter experts to identify functional requirements and product content
    • Seeking guidance as necessary to complete assigned projects in a timely manner
    • Authoring detailed, high-quality development specifications that define:
      • Use case
      • Application functionality
      • Product screen appearance & usage elements
        • Layout
        • Graphical user interface (GUI)
        • Workflow elements
      • Reporting requirements
  • Serve as the primary interface for questions, clarifications and issues that may arise on specified solutions during the design, Software Development, QA/test, documentation, introduction and sustaining phases
  • Work with Product Managers and Software Development team to maintain common graphical user interfaces, style sheets and other consistency across the product
  • Perform basic quality assurance (QA) steps:
    • Propose application test plans as required to test specified solutions
    • Confirm end-product functionality through application testing following Software Development
    • Validate compliance with specifications
    • Support Software QA/Test during the test phase
    • Document potential issues requiring attention
  • Independently track progress on all assigned projects for purpose of personal time management and to report status and completion dates as requested
  • Conduct knowledge transfer to Technical Writers to support creation of internal and customer-facing documentation
  • Evaluate feedback received from Customers
Knowledge and/or Skill Requirements:
  • Minimum two (2) years experience in the specification of web-based business applications
  • Knowledge and background in information technology (IT), computer networks, management information systems (MIS) and business applications is preferred
  • Directly relevant experience and/or education in two (2) or more of the following areas is highly desired:
    • Applications
      • Reporting
      • Help desk
      • Change management
      • Systems & network management
    • Technologies
      • IT networks
      • Cisco product solutions
      • IP Telephony / Unified Communications solutions
      • Telecommunications
      • Contact / call centers
  • Demonstrable technical writing and software specification skills within a fast-paced environment
    • Ability to understand complex networking and business concepts and translate them into clear, concise and complete software development specifications
    • Specification of:
      • Web-based business applications
      • Functional design
        • Graphical user interface (GUI)
        • Product screens
        • Reports
        • Workflow processes
  • Candidates will have well-rounded abilities, including:

  • Knowledge and experience in Software Development processes
    • While this is not a software development position, a fundamental knowledge of specification/definition, development and QA/test practices is necessary to interface effectively with other team members
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
Education:
  • College degree required
  • Technical degree in IT, MIS, networking or computer science areas preferred
